To my nearly graduated college self

As I'm about to graduate, I hope I'm still alive and healthy. I also hope that I didn't drop out of school. I hope I haven't had that many mental breakdowns from the work load and I would be happy to know that I have a group of fun friends.
Questions:
What's your GPA?
Are you still sure about what you want to do with your future?
Are you having fun?
What are you planning to do after graduation?
Goals:
Be happy
Find a great group of friends who care about you
Find a career that makes you happy, not just one that pays the bills
Find something you're passionate about and pursue it
Steps to reach those goals:
Stay happy
Look at things on the positive side
Don't drop out because you payed a LOT of money to go to that school
Try new things
Take some risks, but don't be stupid
(:

PPT Mix Critique

1. Maria Gnoza - From Maria's beautiful presentation, I learned how to train a whale. I enjoyed how specific she was, especially with name examples. I am excited to know my whale's secrets of the deep. I was taught the basic commands like; slapping the water, bridge, surf the whale, the infamous "corkscrew," etc. She should not have put a picture of a cute baby seal in the presentation, because it got eaten.
2. Grace Rosenbaum - I learned what cross stitching is and how to do it. Cross stitching is similar to sewing but it utilizes a cross pattern. It makes a cheap and easy gift to make, plus it's relaxing to do. She posted pictures of templates and supplies. She also put a video in showing the framing process. I would say add a little more color or something in the presentation to get viewers' attention. Great presentation.
3. Amit - How to share chrome with others. This presentation takes you through the step by step process by video. He used a screen recording and showed us exactly how to share chrome with others. The video goes a little fast and it might be slowed down just a tad, otherwise, it was nice and useful.

Online Form/Surveys

Yes, I've created a google form before. Yes, I know what this means. I have just used google forms and emailed the link to classes so they could take the survey.

April 7th

I'm a good reader. I love reading and I read anywhere from 5 to 11 books a month. I don't think most people know how to get interested in reading so here's how; 1. read Harry Potter. 2. start off reading in a genre that actually interests you and won't bore you. 3. Try YA Fantasies, that's how most people get hooked. Also, booktube never hurts. Whenever I'm in a reading slump, I just watch booktube videos and I bounce back.

My Weekend

This weekend, I picked my boyfriend up from the airport because he flew in from Chicago to come to prom. We played board games and ate a lot of food. We also watched jenna marbles and went to Red Rock Canyon Grill before prom. Prom was dull, the music was really bad, but at least afterprom was fun. On Sunday, we went shopping and got free 44oz. sodas from sonic and hung out until I drove him to the airport. Then I cleaned the house.

Apple's New Video App

The article I read was, "The Hidden Breakthrough In Apple's New Video App" by Margaret Rhodes. This article clearly explains Apple's new video app, which is called "Clip." The app will be extremely popular because of its facial recognition, sharibility, filters, fun effects, and most importantly, the app's ability to convert live speech into readable text. This feature is called Live Titles. Live Titles is going to make captioning videos easier than it has ever been before. Before this app, one would have to download a specific app that lets you type in your own captioning, but this process is slow, time-consuming and sometimes, not even free. It seems the reason Apple decided to launch this new video app is because of the increase in popularity of video apps such as Snapchat and even Facebook and Instagram. The use of videos in social media is becoming more and more common, so Apple wanted to take things a step further for consumers.

3/22 Spring Break

For Spring Break, I went to Chicago to visit my friends and family. I went to the St. Paddy's parade downtown to surprise my cousin (since he was playing drums in the parade). My cousin Michael turned four, so my whole family met at my uncle's house for a party. I went to an ariana grande concert with my best friend Demetri and saw a lot of movies with my friends. My boyfriend, Joey, asked me to prom, as imaged here...
And I ate a lot of Cuban food and pizza. My favorite place to get pizza from in Chicago is probably Blaze Pizza. (Like a Chipotle for pizza)...

3/21 Photo Editing

I am comparing Picmonkey and adobe Lightroom. I highly prefer Adobe Lightroom to edit my photos, Picmonkey doesn't have as much variety. I believe Lightroom is a little more on the professional side of editing as well.
The first picture, is from Picmonkey. As you might not be able to tell, I added a pink tint to Joey's cheeks. There aren't many options.
In the second photo, I used Lightroom to edit some senior photos. I could adjust saturation, exposure, contrast, highlights, fix blemishes, etc.

Infographic Peer Feedback

Provide me with a quick overview of the student Infographics you viewed for this assignment.  In your reflection to me, provide the student name & 1-2 things you liked/learned by looking at their infographic. Finally, did you enjoy this project?

Maria - She made her infographic fun and creative. The title was very neat.

Grace- She provided viewers with a perfect amount of data to get her point across.

Amit - His infographic was simple and followed a neat pattern.

Gavin - His infographic was something I would have never thought of, which makes it all the more fun. I would add some keys for the charts though.

This project was easy and fun. It let me teach my interests to other students in a fun way.

Infographic + Reflection

I enjoyed creating my own infographic, because it was for something I'm passionate about.I've seen infographics a lot in school, as posters, or even as ads online. I would use an infographic in school, for example in Bioscience, to present data in a simpler form. Or I could also use it in my personal life as a means of presenting data on the meat and dairy industry. (: The site was easy to navigate, except I couldn't figure out how to make bullet lists. This is a website I would use again (piktochart).

Infographic Research

What is an infographic?
A visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data.

What is the purpose of an infographic?
Graphic or visual representations of information or data in a concise and easy to understand format.. They can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system's ability to see patterns and trends. -wiki

What type of information is best displayed in an infographic?
Probably statistical data. Like poll or survey results.

How can an infographic help convey your message to an audience?
Infographics make presenting data to a younger audience, or an audience that doesn't understand how to interpret raw data, a lot easier.

How might you use an infographic in your class assignments?
Infographics would be very useful in my bioscience research class. I have a number of experiments that I have collected raw data from and I'll need to format this data in such a way that every viewer will be able to comprehend.

Canva vs. Lucid Press

I definitely prefer Lucid Press over Canva in regards to creating my own content. Lucid Press has a lot more options, including the fact that my work doesn't have to be shared as a link. There is a diverse selection of templates to choose from on Lucid and Canva, but I believe Lucid has a greater range of ideas to work from. Lucid was easier to use, but I think Canva provided more free content.

02/01/17 - Words for Teenagers

I completely agree with this quote, it's short, but an eye opener. Most teenagers nowadays, or at least the ones I know, don't have a lot of sense of responsibility. They're used to their parents cooking for them, doing their laundry, cleaning up their messes, paying for their gas, and when the time comes for that kid to go off to college, how are they supposed to take care of themselves? My parents have always believed in learning things the "hard way." Growing up, I was always responsible for cleaning my own room and cleaning the kitchen for my mom who would cook my meals until I was old enough to cook my own. I was never payed an allowance for chores, and it wasn't a favor to my parents. Learning how to do simple things like mopping (which a lot of my friends have never done) is a favor to yourself so you know how to take care of yourself when you're no longer living with your parents. So, yes, I agree, it's better to grow up and learn how to be responsible than complain to your parents about all the work you think you're doing at this age.

1/30/17 Social Bookmarking CE

  • I've developed a slightly different understanding of social bookmarking after reading this article. I didn't realize there was such competitiveness in relation to the subject of users and viewers.
  • I do think social bookmarking is a useful tool as it makes accessing websites related to our area of interest a lot easier.
  • The article I read wasn't very current, but I did learn that in 2006 the leading social bookmarking websites were del.icio.us and StumbleUpon.

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is essentially a method of marking websites on a page so they can be easily accessed. This is most commonly used to advertise websites to the viewers on your page. These links should be somewhat associated to the site on which they are posted. For example, web bookmarks can typically be found on blog posts. This is an effective way for bloggers to draw attention to their social media sites.

1/20/17 - Prezi Reflection

I believe Prezi presentations are simpler and easier to use than PowerPoint, they're also great attention grabbers. Although I consider Prezi an easier tool when it comes to presentations, PowerPoint, in my opinion, is a lot more effective for a broader range of things. PowerPoint would be better to use than Prezi in more formal or professional settings. But for example, in situations where art and creativity is influenced, Prezi would more likely be a better choice of the two. I would use Google slides in all honesty, but I'm more likely to use PowerPoint than Prezi because it has more options than Prezi.
